A castle as the setting, and a wedding at Alingui Castle in San Miguel de Salinas starts with a clear advantage. Ciara & Eoin chose the province of Alicante for their destination wedding in Spain, surrounded by their closest people. The result was a day of Mediterranean light, arched courtyards, red bridesmaid dresses and a party that ended with a guest or two fast asleep before the night was over. As a destination wedding photographer in Alicante, here is how I lived it.
Getting Ready at Casa Bonnita and Casa Kaz: Nerves and Laughter
The morning began at Casa Bonnita and Casa Kaz, two white houses with flowers at the door and a warm family atmosphere. While the groom got dressed among friends, waistcoats and ties, the bride had her makeup done surrounded by her own people. The bridesmaids, in red dresses and matching pyjamas, were joined by the children of the wedding.
The dress hanging on the wooden door, the rings on red fabric, the perfume and the earrings gave me the perfect start. And there was a key moment: the youngest bridesmaid smiling at the camera, and the father of the bride, in his sunglasses, waiting in his armchair for his first look at Ciara, who could not hold back the tears.
Wedding at Alingui Castle: Moorish-Style Arches and Pure Emotion
The bride left the house on her father’s arm, heading for the ceremony, and from there to the castle in a classic car that was already a treat for the eyes. The ceremony of this wedding at Alingui Castle took place in an arched courtyard with Moorish-style tiles, petals on the floor and a musician at the keyboard setting the pace. There were glances, joined hands, the exchange of rings, the candle, the kiss and the applause of the guests.
Couple Portraits: The Castle as a Backdrop
After the ceremony we slipped away to the wooden and stone door of the castle, with the classic car and the mountain landscape behind us. The portraits came out natural, with no forced poses. It is what I love most about a couple session at a destination wedding: when the couple relax, the photo takes care of itself.
Cocktail Hour: Toasts, Family and Costa Blanca Sun
The cocktail hour was the time to reconnect. Roaring laughter, hugs across generations and the groom’s friends posing with a “today we behave” look. Among the details, the seating plan with its “Happy Ever After” and a guest who toasted in his own way under an olive tree.
Wedding at Alingui Castle: Dinner and Speeches in the Castle Hall
The wedding dinner took place in a hall with carved mirror frames and stained-glass windows, which gives the photos a very special touch. There were speeches, knowing looks, a few of those tears that are forgiven at a wedding, and the cake cut with a sword, which always makes for a great moment. One long table full of people who love each other.
First Dance and Party: Until the Last Song
The first dance marked the change of pace. A dance floor full of children and adults, dresses in full flight and a DJ who knew how to read the room. Between songs came a surprise: a spit-roast pig for the night owls. And, as at every great party, someone ended up fast asleep on the sofa or on the Balinese bed. That is the best sign that the day was a complete success.
About the Venue: A Wedding at Alingui Castle in San Miguel de Salinas
San Miguel de Salinas is the highest town in the Vega Baja comarca and is known as the “Balcony of the Costa Blanca”, with views over the citrus groves, the Torrevieja lagoons and, on clear days, the Mediterranean. Alingui Castle (Castillo de Conesa) is a castle in Moorish style that also houses the Alingui restaurant, with spaces for the ceremony, the banquet and the dancing. A wedding at Alingui Castle is an ideal setting for a destination wedding on the Costa Blanca.
